The Brand Quiz
How strongly do you associate colour and imagery with the world's biggest brands?

Back in 2014 I was briefed with raising awareness of CMS vendor VYRE’s Brand Asset Management play.
To do so I decided to take one of the fundamental axioms of successful brands: that recognition is boosted by consistent application of assets and guidelines, and combine it with my own love of finding joy from nonsense on the internet.
The Brand Quiz went almost immediately viral and the overall campaign received 295K hits organically within 6 weeks of launch. Its long tail success led to a sequel and festive editions, both of which I also devised, designed, and coded.
My role: concept and design, marketing copy, and coding the website.
Sadly the site isn’t online these days, but just for fun why not see if you can identify the following brands taken from the quiz (answers at the bottom!)…

Answers to the above clues:
Caterpillar, Virgin, Starbucks, Hertz, Coca Cola.
The Brand Quiz was featured on many industry and mainstream websites, but its reach was amplified massively by allowing players to post their high scores directly to Facebook and Twitter (which was pretty novel at the time).
The Brand Quiz was a big success for VYRE’s business, and it led to a steep increase in web traffic, search placement, and overall recognition and visibility in the market (which as a company focussed on attracting big brands, went down quite well).
It’s influence even inspired a number of homages (including a lovely version put together by the Tate, shown below).
I’m lucky to be able to say that The Brand Quiz was not my first, or last viral success.
The (imaginatively titled) Brand Quiz 2 also did well, and I had previously created Animal Reviews (a very silly website about animals).
